of his generation. i'm the author of the holy or the broken, leonard cohen, jeff buckley, and the unlikely ascent of "hallelujah." it is always hard to know with the actual genesis of the credit process is for a song but what leonard cohen said was that he wanted to open this idea of it mean in giving praise to god. he wanted to open it up beyond its religious meaning and to give a more religious sense. nothing much happened for a long time. jeff buckley comes to new york city and becomes the most buzz about young artist in 1992, 93. rediscovers -- he discovers "hallelujah" and entered it into his said. he died drowning in the mississippi river and this mythologies starts to grow around him and more and more people go back to his music and "hallelujah" becomes a real time epitaph for this tragic and figure. more and more artists started to cover it. everybody from willie nelson to katie lang to michael bolton. all kinds of people began to record the song. is very easy to be cynical that music does not mean as much as it used to, not as important as the ec to be. it can me

. president, i would ask that commander jeff bennett be allowed permission to occupy the floor. the presiding officer: without objection. mr. sessions: mr. president, i rise today to honor navy commander jeffrey a. bennett ii. commander bennett has served as a military fellow in my office since december of last year. he brought to public service the same passion and honor he's brought to military service. commander bennett is a 1992 naval academy graduate and was nominated for the academy by the chairman of the armed services committee several years ago, carl levin. he came to my office after a tour serving as captain of the u.s.s. stockdale, an arleigh burke class guided missile destroyer. i know he was an excellent captain, indeed. i personally observed commander bennett's abilities. i am very impressed. he has a good strategic grasp of america's challenges while also mastering the details necessary to fully grasp military, budget and financial issues, among other issues that we deal with. his command of the defense authorization and appropriation legislation from both the house of represen

in washington. raymond james says he's expecting the santa claus rally. jeff is with me now also dean from barclay's, peter anderson and our own rick santelli. jeff, how can this market rally when there's still so much uncertainty out there? >> i am surprised the market held up as well as it did today, maria. it had every reason to be down four or 500 points. historically, the week after christmas it's up about 70% of the time with a little over a percent gain. and i think you're going to see that after tax selling gets over as of today. and in terms of the selling that we are seeing already, do you think it's partly because people are expecting capital gains and dividend taxes to go up regardless? >> yeah, i think that's right. there's still a chance for a solution to the fiscal cliff. washington tends to work on a last-minute basis. the fact that the republicans couldn't even get together and chose some kind of solidarity even though they knew the plan b wouldn't go through is disturbing. >> dean mackey, how do you see 2013? >> the positive thing right now sthot consumer spending was pic

's wrong. >> so, jeff what's the solution to this? >> well one solution is to change the rules and to change the way patents are designed. charlie, keep in mind these worlds were for a mechanical world. we're in a dynamic world now. maybe chang them for software because that is a business that changes much more quickly. >> and then jeff you know it sounds like this is really stifling innovation and it hurts small businesses. >> it does indeed. and keep in mind you know a company like microsoft has the lawyers and the millions or billions in some cases to defend these lawsuits. but when you're a small business man and you have to spend a million and a half dollars to potentially fight one of those these lawsuits for five or ten years, it can make or >>> all right, storm clouds moving in overnight and looks like it's going to dump around the bay area. we have seen heavy rainfall early on today as much as 4" in the mountains of the north bay. that sliding slowly to the south so it will pick up. rain heavy at times to go along with strong gusty winds. high
